MCC offers a variety of noncredit classes in February 2023

 

Learn stress management, creative writing, knitting, MIG welding, retirement facts, CPR, and more during Montcalm Community College’s February noncredit courses.

“Mortgage 101” is a course where you learn about home ownership, the home buying process, and the costs of ownership. The class is online Feb. 1 from 12 to 1 p.m. The course is free, but pre-registration is required. 

“Stress Management and the Effects of Stress on Health” discusses stress and factors that contribute to stress, as well as health-related conditions caused by stress. The class is Feb. 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. on MCC’s Sidney campus. The class is free, but pre-registration is required. 

“Creative Writing: Fiction Seminar” gives writers the chance to generate new material and sharpen their storytelling skills. The class is Feb. 4 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on MCC’s Sidney campus. The cost is $25.  

“Knitting” covers the meaning of patterns with abbreviations and some new stitches. The class runs on Feb. 4 and Feb. 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on MCC’s Sidney campus. The cost is $25. 

“Basic MIG Welding – Fillet Weld Qualification” teaches how to set up a MIG welder and learn welding in flat and horizontal positions. The class is Feb. 6 from 12 to 4 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost is $250. 

“Out of This World” allows participants to join the crew of the MCC Spaceship Centurion to produce galactic art to take home and admire. The class is on Mondays from Feb. 6 through 20 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on the Greenville campus. The cost is $30. 

“Great Decision Discussion” features impartial, thought-provoking analysis on eight issues of concern to U.S. policymakers today. Each discussion begins with the group viewing a 30-minute PBS television show that was created for the Great Decisions Discussion groups. This is followed by a discussion of the topic. Light snacks and beverages will be included. The class is on Mondays from Feb. 6 through March 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost is $25. 

“How SBA Can Help Secure Funding for Your Business” discusses SBA lending, contracting, and counseling programs that can help you access the capital your business needs. The class is Feb. 7 from 1 to 2 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The class is free, but pre-registration is required. 

“Gershwin to Godsmack: A Survey of 20th Century American Music” provides a survey of musicians, producers, composers, and genres of 20th Century American music. The class is Feb. 7 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost is $20. 

“Retirement Myths and Facts” will clarify common retirement myths and provide resources for additional information. The class is online Feb. 8 from 12 to 1 p.m. The course is free, but pre-registration is required. 

“Medicare Made Easy” teaches all about the ABC’s and D of Medicare, and how to make the most of your Medicare benefits. The class is Feb. 8 from 6 to 7 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The course is free, but pre-registration is required. 

“Historic Schools of Montcalm County” explores the 180 schoolhouses that once stood in Montcalm County’s 20 townships. The two-part class is Feb. 14 and 21 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost is $35. 

“Heartsaver CPR AED” teaches adult and child CPR and AED use, infant CPR and how to relieve choking. The class is Feb. 16 from 6 to 9 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost is $65. 

“Writing a Business Plan” is designed for individuals who want to increase their chances for successful self-employment, or business launch. The class is Feb. 21 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost is free, but pre-registration is required. 

“Instant Piano for Hopelessly Busy People” teaches the way professionals play using chords. The class is Feb. 21 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. online. The cost is $59. 

“Instant Guitar for Hopelessly Busy People” will teach you some basic chords and get you playing along with your favorite songs right away. The class is online Feb. 22 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The cost is $59. 

“FANUC iRVision” teaches tasks and procedures required for an operator, technician, engineer or programmer to set up, teach, test and modify iRVision apps. The class is Feb. 24 and March 3 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost is $1,200. 

“Reiki I and II” explores a form of hands-on healing, with its origins in India and the East dating back many thousands of years before Christ and Buddha. The class is Feb. 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost is $249. 

“MCC Alumni & Friends Choir” is a community and student non-audition choir that welcomes everyone, high school age and older. The practices are on Saturdays from Feb. 25 through April 22 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. There is no practice on Saturday, April 1. The cost is $15. The spring musical theme is Earth Day and the spring concert is Sunday, April 23, at 4 p.m. in the gymnasium in the Activities Building on MCC’s Sidney campus. 

“Introduction to Ballroom Dance” will be an overview of the different styles of ballroom dance including waltz, fox trot, rumba, and nightclub two-step. The class is on Mondays from Feb. 27 through March 20 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost is $75 per couple or $40 per person. 

“Montcalm County’s Lost, Forgotten & Unforgettable Places” is a three-part series that explores each site in the county, township by township. The class is on Tuesdays from Feb. 28 through March 14 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost is $50.
