Johnson named Golfer of the Week
Zach Johnson, 17, of Mason, has twice been named the Michigan Community College Athletics Association (MCCAA) Western Conference Golfer of the Week this fall. He has also led his team by finishing 1st or 2nd in each meet they have competed in this season.
“I feel honored to be named golfer of the week and it makes it feel rewarding that all my hard work is paying off,” Johnson said.
The honor was bestowed upon him for the weeks of Sept. 18 and Oct. 16.
He attended Holt High School and started golfing in eighth grade. He was named Golfer of the Year by the Lansing State Journal his senior year.
The thing he loves most about golf is how independent it is.
“I’m able to go out there and everything is on me and have no teammates to hide behind,” he said.
Johnson said he enjoys the camaraderie of his teammates.
“My favorite part about playing for MCC golf is the players on my team. They are all super nice guys who are determined to get better at golf just like me,” he said. “I also like that my coach believes in us as a team and will help us out to get better.”
Johnson is studying Business Management at MCC. He is enrolled in all online classes and said he appreciates the flexible schedule. While he is uncertain about what he wants to do in the future, he knows he wants to transfer to another institution to play golf at a higher level.
In his spare time, Johnson works at a golf course and likes to fish with his friends.
