Phi Theta Kappa hosts animal shelter drive
Montcalm Community College’s Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) honor society is collecting items to donate to local animal shelters.
Donations are being accepted until Dec. 8 and may be dropped off in room A143 in the Stanley P. Ash Building on the MCC’s Sidney campus. Items needed include leashes and collars, dog food, cat food, rabbit, hamster and gerbil food, dog and cat toys, dog and cat treats, towels, blankets, pet beds, cat litter and animal shampoo. The items will go to local shelters in the area.
“We had students express interest in helping some humane societies and the local shelter,” said Sara Rittersdorf, Chemistry Instructor and co-adviser of PTK. “PTK Regional (Michigan) has an event on their Facebook page about volunteering at local shelters. We figured since the holiday season is a time of giving, many shelters might get forgotten during that time, so we wanted to make sure they are still being thought of.”
MCC’s Alpha Tau Alpha Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is an invitation-only organization that was chartered in 1991. Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, headquartered in Jackson, Miss., is the largest honor society in American higher education with 1,250 chapters on two-year and community college campuses in all 50 states and throughout the world.
