Teaching Thanksgiving Presentation

MCC Arts and Humanities Instructor Seth Sutton will explore the story of Thanksgiving through an Indigenous lens, challenging long-held national myths and uncovering the deeper truths that have been silenced or simplified in mainstream narratives. Grounded in Indigenous history, perspectives, and voices, the discussion will examine how the traditional Thanksgiving story was constructed, what it omits, and how educators, families, and communities can teach this history with honesty and respect. By reframing the holiday, we seek to honor Indigenous resilience, center Indigenous knowledge, and imagine a more truthful and inclusive way of giving thanks.

This event is on Nov. 25 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. in the
Library in the lower level of the Donald C. Burns Administration/Library Building on MCC’s Sidney campus. Lunch will be provided and MCC staff, students and community members are invited to attend. If you’re unable to join in-person, this event will be live-streamed to MCC’s Facebook page.
