Clay Target team set program records
Montcalm Community College's Clay Target team achieved a new program record by scoring 230 out of 250 points in Trap during their competition at Flat River Conservation Club on September 20.
Freshman Chase Merritt led the team with an impressive performance, shooting 25 consecutive hits in the first round and 24 in the second, finishing with a total of 49 points. Evan Plonka closely followed with a score of 48 points, including his second 25-straight round in the second round. Azariah Trumble recorded 45 points, while both Drake Syrjala and Jack McBride each scored 44 points. The second round proved to be the team's highest-scoring round, achieving a collective total of 119 points with only 6 misses.
In Skeet, the team set a new program record by hitting 198 clays out of 250. Drake Syrjala and Evan Plonka led the way for the Skeet team, each scoring 44 points, with Plonka achieving his first 25-straight round in this discipline. Azariah Trumble recorded a score of 38 out of 50, while Jack McBride and Chase Merritt rounded out the squad with scores of 36 points each.
Looking ahead, the Trap team will travel to the Mecosta County Rod and Gun Club to compete against Ferris State's club team on Tuesday, September 24 at 6 p.m.
