MCC offers noncredit classes in April

Learn about painting, welding, yoga, stained-glass making, piano, soap-making and more during Montcalm Community College’s April noncredit courses.

Join us for the upcoming Coffee and Canvas class taught by Sue Moss. Participants will receive step-by-step directions to complete a 16 x 20 canvas. All supplies are included. The class will take place on April 5 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost is $35.
Learn to use stick welding (SMAW) to perform common repairs and practices on the farm in Farm Welding – Youth class, for those ages 12 and older. This four-session class will take place April 7-10 from 3 to 5 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost for all four sessions is $150.
Instructor Amy Shinabarger’s April yoga classes will be focused on Grounding, Honoring Spring and Earth Day. This is a “most all levels” yoga class offering options to start or push your yoga practices and is perfect for beginners or yogis to slow down. Class meets each Wednesday of April beginning April 9 from 9 to 10 a.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost for all four sessions is $50.
In our Beginner Stained Glass Cardinal class, you will learn what you need to start making beautiful stained glass, with all supplies being provided to make a cardinal. This class requires standing for long periods of time and safety glasses are provided and must be worn at all times. Closed-toe shoes are also required. This class is April 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost is $60.
Learn to play piano the way the professionals do — using chords. The $59 class fee for our Instant Piano for Hopelessly Busy People course includes the online book, online follow-up lessons, a recording of the class and an optional periodic question and answer session. This class is held online using Zoom and is partly hands-on instruction and partly lecture/demonstration. The class will take place from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on April 21. This class is for those aged 13 and older.
Perhaps you’d like to learn how to play the guitar, instead. Our crash course — Instant Guitar for Hopelessly Busy People — will teach you some basic chords and get you to play along with your favorite songs right away. The $59 class fee includes the online book, online follow-up lessons, a recording of the class and also an optional periodic question and answer session. This class is for those aged 13 and older.
Join us for a delightful wine-tasting experience featuring a handful of carefully selected wines, each offering unique flavors and aromas during our Charcuterie and Cheers class. Alongside the tastings, enjoy a curated charcuterie board with an assortment of cheeses, meats and accompaniments to enhance your tasting experience. The class is April 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost is $35.
Learn general skills in suicide prevention taught by professionals from Corewell Health. QPR training teaches general community members to recognize and respond to mental health crises using the approach of Question, Persuade and Refer. The class is on April 24 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost is free.
Learn the art of crafting your own natural soap bars using the hot process method during our Hot Process Soap Making class. Materials will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring their essential oils to personalize their creations. Students will be required to bring a crockpot and a 42-ounce loaf-style soap mold. The class is April 26 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost is $50.
Our Continuing with Watercolors class is designed for students who understand basic watercolor techniques but would like to try slightly more complex painting. Materials needed for this class are basic watercolor supplies: 140# Cold Press Watercolor paper pad, block or sheets (size is your preference), tube or pan watercolor paints, suggested colors to look for are Ultramarine Blue, Cad Yellow, Alizarin Crimson, Raw Sienna, Burnt Umber, Cobalt Blue, Sap Green, Yellow Ochre and Paynes Gray, two water containers, a white place (palette), painter’s tape, paper towel, synthetic blend round brushes in sizes small, medium and large and a black and white photo of your choice. This four-session class will begin on April 28 from 6 to 9 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus, with subsequent sessions taking place each Monday. The cost is $60.
