MCC's men's golfers and women's volleyball played away Sept. 25

The Montcalm Community College Centurions men’s golf team and women’s volleyball team both played away on Monday, Sept. 25.

The golf team finished 5th with a team score of 343 in the Sam Kromer Invitational at the St. Clair Golf Club in St. Clair.

Five golfers competed and the top four scores counted toward the team score. Competing for the Centurions were: Jerald Brownell (90), Cashius Heiss (99), Lucas Hirkaway (102), Ethan Johnson (78), and Zach Johnson (76). Johnson, who finished 2nd place overall, has finished either 1st or 2nd in the four golf meets he has competed in so far this season.

The Invitational consisted of 49 golfers from Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) members from Delta College, Oakland Community College, Glen Oaks Community College, Schoolcraft College, St. Clair County Community College, Grand Rapids Community College, MCC and Wayne County Community College District.

The women’s volleyball team traveled to Escanaba to compete in an MCCAA Northern Conference match against Bay College. The Centurions fell 24-26, 24-26, 17-25 to the Bay College Norse, despite having leads in all 3 sets.

The Centurions were led offensively by Lauren Rowe, who picked up a team high of 10 kills. Freshman Tiana Whitacre recorded a double-double, 14 digs and 21 assists to lead the Centurions in both digs and assists. Whitacre also picked up a team high, 2 service aces while Abbey Pohl and Maia Sexton combined for the teams 4 blocks.

 

UP NEXT:

The volleyball team will compete at home on Wednesday, Sept. 27, against Grand Rapids Community College with a game time of 6:30 p.m.

The golf team will compete on Friday, Sept. 29, at the Delta College Invitational. The start time of the invitational is still to be announced.
