‘These Silent Woods” is the 2024 One Book One County Montcalm selection

“These Silent Woods” by Kimi Cunningham Grant is the book everyone will be reading as the 2024 One Book One County Montcalm (OBOC) selection.

The book was announced at the May 21 kickoff celebration at Montcalm Community College’s Sidney campus, which featured guest speaker Brooke Whipple.

This year’s selection is described as vividly atmospheric and masterfully tense. It’s a story of poignant survival, sacrifice and how far a father will go when faced with losing it all.

To celebrate “These Silent Woods,” a series of book discussions are planned, as well as a closing event featuring the author, Kimi Cunningham Grant. Book discussions include:

  • Carson City Public Library – Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 6 p.m.
  • Crystal Community Library – Tuesday, July 9, at 1 p.m.
  • Flat River Community Library – Wednesday, June 26, at 6 p.m.
  • Home Township Library – Wednesday, June 12, at 10 a.m.
  • Timothy C. Hauenstein Reynolds Township Library - Wednesday, July 31, at 1 p.m.
  • Tamarack District Library – Thursday, June 27, at 5 p.m.
  • Montcalm Community College Library – Tuesday, July 16, at 12 noon
  • Richland Township Library – Friday, June 28, at 11 a.m.
  • White Pine District Library – Wednesday, July 17, at 1 p.m.

The closing event will be held on Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus.

Kimi’s newest book, “The Nature of Disappearing,” will hit shelves on June 18. During the closing celebration, she will read an excerpt from her new book, followed by a moderated interview and Q&A. Described as “poignant, suspenseful, and unforgettable, ‘The Nature of Disappearing’ explores what it takes to start over – and the cost of letting the past pull you back in.” It is one of Goodreads’ “Readers’ most anticipated summer books.’”

Kimi is also an award-winning poet and essayist whose work has appeared in Fathom, Literary Mama, RATTLE, Poet Lore, and Whitefish Review.
