Online Summer Classes for Middle and High Schoolers
Did you know your children can start earning college credits at Montcalm Community College in middle and high school? Are you looking for opportunities for them to continue their education this summer? If so, MCC is offering a few exciting online summer course options they can take, risk free. And, upon successful completion, there is an option to earn real college credit, giving them a jump start on their college education!
These noncredit courses are taught online from June 1 through July 24. The cost for each course is $25. While these classes are appropriate for middle school and high school aged students, it is recommended for high schoolers. Registration ends May 28, 2020.
This summer's course offerings include:
Kick off to College (XGST 100 01)Enjoy an introduction to college and life. This is often the first class students take in college. Students explore and experience their own role in creating their own success, whether it is in college or life in general. They will be exposed to tools, guidelines, principles, and insights that aid them towards success while developing plans to reach their own goals. While this class relates to the college environment, the course emphasizes the need to grow and develop beyond the college experience as well.
If successful, with paid MCC credit tuition, this course can be transferred to GNST 100 for full college credit.
Find Your Future (XGST 110 01)Undecided about your future and your career path? It is becoming more and more important to look at your options early. This course is designed to assist the student in developing life-planning skills to make informed career choices. The course focuses on self-awareness, decision-making strategies, value clarification, academic planning, career exploration, and interest inventory assessments.
If successful, with paid MCC credit tuition, this course can be transferred to GNST 110 for full college credit.
Explore Health Careers (XMED 400 01)Are you interested in a career in the health field but not really sure what is out there? This course provides the student with an overview of nursing and other health professions.
If successful, with paid MCC credit tuition, this course can be transferred to full college elective credit.
Youth Literature (XENG 236 01)This is a survey of literature that investigates the multiple genres of contemporary young adult literature created for middle and high school age groups (11-18). Students will read a diverse range of young adult texts written by distinguished authors and will be discussed from the perspectives of genre, theme, representations of adolescence and adulthood, and approaches to interpretation. Further study will include methods, selection processes, criticism, applications, and writing.
If successful, with paid MCC credit tuition, this course can be transferred to ENGL 236 for full college credit. This class is for middle school and high school ages who can read many 250+ page books at a 5th-grade reading level.
Cancellations and Refund Policy
Class sizes are limited and enrollments are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. If a course is cancelled due to low enrollment, you will be contacted by phone. Students will receive a full refund for all courses and workshops cancelled by the college.

Life focusMontcalm Community College offers a variety of career development and personal enrichment courses. Pre-registration is required.
SCECH/SB-CEUMontcalm Community College offers Michigan State Board Continuing Education Unit (SB-CEU) Courses. Each course allows you to earn 2.4 units. The courses are designed with different sections which allows you to choose the best time to work around your busy schedule.
Online CoursesMontcalm Community College offers online career and personal development courses through Education to go (Ed2go)and ProTrain. These companies have a variety of courses in areas of personal enrichment, workforce skills and “green” skills.
- A full refund will be given to students who officially drop a course by 5 p.m. one business day prior to the first class meeting. Failure to attend does not constitute an official drop and no refunds will be granted.
- Students enrolling in Education To Go online courses will have one week after the start date to drop the course for a full refund.
- Please note that MCC will enforce all other online and contracted company’s refund policies. Any special refund policies are clearly stated in the course descriptions.
- All refunds will be mailed to the address on the enrollment card. Processing takes at least two weeks.
